RING No. 243

This morning I uninstalled Microcosmic, the sculptural window display that April B. and I spent June creating. It was up for 2 months in The Downtown Gallery in Kent. It was a sad thing, but I spoke to a few people as i was in the process and they had very good things to say about our work. It felt good to get some really positive feedback. It made removing it a little easier.

I got to try the new Thai place in Kent today. It was really delicious. I encourage you to give it a try. The orange chicken is amazing (I asked them to spice it up to 2 pepper icons). Also, on the dessert menu, the ice cream is delish and so is the custard.

Today's ring is made of sterling silver and Macaw Feathers. The seller I got them from guarantees that they were obtained cruelty free.

Thanks for reading, Goodnight!

Materials: Sterling Silver, Macaw Feathers (Cruelty Free)
Dimensions: 4.5 x 1.5 x 2  inches

RING No. 241

Today was the first day of classes. I went to my Land/Environmental Art History Class. It seems like a very interesting and thought provoking class. I have been mulling over an excerpt from a reading by Robert Smithson we had to discuss today. The part that has stuck in my head is : "The museums and parks are graveyards above the ground--congealed memories of the past that act as a pretext for reality. This causes acute anxiety among artists, in so far as they challenge, compete, and fight for the spoiled ideas of lost
situations"

Tomorrow is the first day of my class (Jewelry Concepts and Techniques) that I am teaching. I am excited!

Today's ring is made from an ipod nano that my sister Susanna gave me. It was broken, so she told me I could take it apart and make something. Thanks Suzie! :) I used steel (backplate) and plastic (clickwheel) from the ipod.

Materials: ipod parts (steel and plastic)
Dimensions: 1.25 x 1.25 x .0625 inch

RING No. 240

Today I got to play basketball with Dave. It was super fun! I am getting better. Still, I play like a "girl", but I have made many baskets and I actually won at HORSE today! I got to do some much needed cartwheels afterwards.

Tonight's ring is made out of some Play Doh that Dave gave me the other day. Thanks Dave! It is a brontosaurus ring. The Play-Doh will eventually dry, making the ring sturdier.

RING No. 237

Today's ring is made out of an old paddleball paddle. I got it when I went home to SC for vacation. Me and my sisters used to play with it as kids. It had since lost its string and ball, so there was just a hole in the middle. I cut the eagle out and set a garnet inside the hole (in sterling silver).  Tomorrow is my birthday (and my dads!) so tonight me and my friends are going dancing! Hooray!
